This course is designed to encourage you to think about the practical ways in which you can improve intentional regulation and metacognition in educational contexts. The main themes covered include:

  • The structure of a learner’s memory: a reminder
  • Maximising use of cognitive load and metacognition – how to train use of load in the classroom when learning new information
  • Metacognition and feedback – how do we nurture the best kind of metacognition and regulation when giving feedback
  • The impact of instructions on metacognition – how what we say and the guidance we give, can change how metacognition happens
