Mr Kim Wells MA (Cantab), PGCE, ACC

Kim Wells is Deputy Head (Learning and Teaching) at Caterham School and has been teaching for 24 years, of which 17 have been as a Senior Leader. He has delivered in school training at over 100 schools in the UK and around the world and has spoken at numerous conferences (including HMC and GSA) about teaching and learning. A Modern Languages graduate of Cambridge University, he spent three years working in the Financial Services Industry before deciding to join the teaching profession in 1996.  

Kim qualified as an Executive Level 7 Coach with the Institute of Leadership & Management in 2016, and as an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coach Federation in 2020. He runs the new IStip Coaching skills for ECT Mentors programme, with over 300 teachers signed up for 2021-2. 

Kim has been heavily involved in winning two national TES awards at Caterham, “Best Use of Technology” in 2018 and “Education Initiative of the Year” in 2011.   

He is a De Bono Master Trainer in Education and guided Caterham to become the first independent school in the country to be awarded Thinking School status. Kim had his research on thinking skills published in HMC’s “Independent and Innovative” and has been interviewed about teaching and learning on both Sky News and ITN News.  

Kim also delivers a range of courses for OSIRIS Educational in areas including Outstanding Teaching, Blended and Digital Learning, Stretching the Most Able, Questioning, Teach Less & Learn More, Oxbridge, and for both GCSE and A level in MFL. Kim is ranked in their top ten trainers on review scores, out of over 400 trainers on OSIRIS’ books. 

He has also designed and led training courses on thinking with the NHS, the Foreign Office, Magistrates and the Insurance industry. He is in a rare group of trainers – someone who is still in the classroom every day and is responsible for leading teaching and learning at a whole school level.
